Pricing and Valuations

Because some Matchbox Super Kings were released with the numbers 101-118, Battle Kings will be denoted with the BK designation. The sequencing of models will begin with the letter A, even though no B models were ever issued. Listed values are for mint vehicles with mint boxes where the box usually represents ten to twenty percent. The three Infantry Soldiers and little blue key are required for certain boxes to be considered mint and complete.

Due to the infinite variations possible, only specific versions are listed while other differences have been noted. Pre-Productions and Color Trials have been omitted but usually fetch ten times the value of their regular issue counterpart. Many rare pieces were released only in certain countries and are still being discovered like this OliveDrab M48-A2 Tank sent in by Mark Christian:

Prices are based on scarcity and not age! For example: the BK-101 Sherman is five years older than the BK-118 Helicopter yet it is less valuable because there are at least five times as many Shermans in circulation than Helicopters. Because Lesney never revealed production numbers, the valuations in The Variations List are estimates and are subject to change with supply and demand.

The earliest cogwheels were orange in color and had teeth. These were replaced with smooth orange cogwheels without teeth. The final type of cogwheels were smooth and green in color. Rollers come in either tan, light green, dark green or OliveGreen. All other colored cogwheels and rollers, like black or white, denote a Pre-Production.

The first Tank Commanders were cream in color. Tanks with these men in them are the most valuable. The next release had beige Tank Commanders followed by the more common tan and light green. The final run of tanks from Lesney had dark green or brown Tank Commanders. These later versions are scarce and quite valuable. All other colored Tank Commanders, like red or yellow, denote a Pre-Production.

The MM-1 and MM-2 were failed trial runs of an attempted line called Matchbox Military released from 1975 to 1977. Reports have them being distributed in Austria, Germany, New Zealand and South Africa. Both pieces were issued in Blisterpacks similar to those of the Military Two-Packs. They appear on BattleKings.com™ because they were the sister series of the Battle Kings having the same military theme with one actually having the same exact body casting!
